Zanzibar is a Tanzanian archipelago located off the coast of East Africa in the Indian Ocean. It’s comprised of several smaller islands and two main ones: Unguja (informally called Zanzibar) and Pemba Island. Zanzibar City, located on Unguja, serves as the capital, with its historical center, Stone Town, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Today, Zanzibar is a popular tourist destination, known for its stunning white-sand beaches, clear turquoise waters, and vibrant culture. Some popular attractions and activities include:
- Stone Town: Explore its labyrinthine streets, visit historical sites like the House of Wonders and the Old Fort, and immerse yourself in the blend of cultures.
- Beaches: Relax on the world-renowned beaches, enjoy watersports like swimming, snorkeling, and diving, or experience the local fishing villages.

Getting around and travel tips
While there isn’t a formal public transportation system, dala-dalas (shared minibuses) are a popular and affordable way to get around. Taxis and car rentals (with or without a driver) are also readily available.
Important travel notes:
- Visitors (excluding residents) must have mandatory Inbound Travel Insurance from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC) for stays up to 92 days. Other international travel insurance policies are not accepted.
- Dress modestly when exploring beyond tourist resorts, especially in Stone Town, to respect the local culture.
